A new start - An act of Kindness

I have lived in Los Angeles now for one month. And in that time, I have learned some absolute truths:

The 101 is a Parking Lot.
GPS's never know how long it will actually take to get anywhere.
And the majority of people here are Mean.
Very, Very Mean.

However, I refuse to believe that this city is all bad. After all, I wouldn't have even been here had it not been for an initial act of kindness that set all of this into motion. I was lost, you see. I had finished school (a Hellish endeavour toward the end,) and was attempting to move forward, but was finding it near impossible to do so. My best friend of 15 years had abandoned me, I was near penniless, and had no prospects. I knew I wanted to move to LA, because I will be a costume designer for film. And it all felt as though I needed to make the next step, move into the next square of the chessboard and get closer to my endgame.
My salvation came when a friend of mine from College--Who I hadn't even spoken to in ages--- contacted me, and informed me that he had a spare room, and I was welcome to it. Within a month, I had hocked my belongings and flown a one way flight straight to Burbank.

It was this simple act of kindness that opened an entire chapter for me---jumpstarted my life and got the gears going. Los Angeles is the city of angels, but there is very little about the city that is angelic. In the 30 days I've been living here, I have witnessed the cruelty of humanity towards their fellow men, but peppered throughout there have been moments---small moments where people have helped eachother, or been kind, or smiled at eachother, something.

LA needs to know that goodness is out there. And LA needs to learn that it is easier to take an extra minute to help another person than it is to stand by idly.

So Hang in there LA. And be Kind.

Until next time-
-C
